Shoot Ideas for developmental shoot three

This is one of my favourite photos that I have included in my image bank, this is because I like the idea of incorporating 'caution' signs to signify danger, which to most would be related also to fear. I like the idea of incorporating it, but not an idea surrounded by it as I think a faded sign in the foreground of a photo would be effective enough to portray fear.

I like the concept of this photo as you can see that someone is almost 'trapped' and cannot escape. I also like the fear emotion on the subjects face, as it is portrayed as realistic fear and the eyes of the model are very dramatic. I also like the idea of adding in props e.g. tape in order to achieve the idea of fear.

I have collected this photo as I feel that a close up of displaying fear may be an idea to follow and experiment with in the studio on Friday's session. If I were to do a close up of expressions of a models face then I think doing this in black and white would make it more of a striking idea. I like the way that these eyes can show the emotion that the model is feeling and that her wide eyes are bold displaying the fear that she is feeling.

I like the uniqueness of this photo, as I have not seen anything similar which is why I like the idea of this. I think that the concept to show the fear of the dark is a clever idea, and by adding feet over the eyes makes it different to any other work. I also like the textures in the photo as the feet you can see large amounts of three-dimensional shapes and depths. I think it would be very difficult to create a similar photo as I am limited, however I think that it is a very unusual and interesting concept.

Inspiration for fear

Image Bank

I like this photo as I think that I would like to do a location
shoot showing fear, that is more dramatic and less
simplistic for example than the shoot that I have already
done in the studio. I also think that experimenting with
different lighting and scene photography by adding
different elements in the photo may be effective. I plan to
do a shoot in a location in the next week or so and collect
different ideas in order to establish what I want to achieve
 from this shoot.

Work record- developmental shoot

What I actually achieved...

For this shoot I adapted my idea, as the original idea that I intended to do was not practical
enough to work. Because of this reason, I felt that I needed to improve on my studio work
so decided to practice this by basing a studio shoot around fear. I am pleased with the
outcome of this shoot, and I had a couple of ideas to join several photos together so the
model gradually moved along. The outcome of this idea was one of my favourites from the
shoot, which I will attach below as photo (1). Overall I am happy to have done this shoot
as I think that it has helped me improve my skills as well as develop my idea of fear further.
Although the shoot is not what I had originally planned, I am pleased with the selection of
photos that I have taken and I believe that this shoot has benefited me.

1)

I am pleased with how this photo has turned out, as I think the repetition in this photo has worked well. This was four separate photos that I joined together using PhotoShop, and I think that the compositions of these four photos work well together as the models positioning is gradually disappearing from the frame. I also like the lighting in this photo, and the element of the hoody gives the impression of hiding from something which in this instance is a fear. However, I think that I need to think in the studio more thoroughly beforehand so that I can be sure that the photos will all fit together and work as one as it was a little tricky getting the photos to line up.

Although this is similar to the last photo, I like the composition created in this photo and the concept of hiding behind hands usually indicates a sign of fear more than the previous above. I also like the range of colours in this photo as in the centre there are warm colours and I think that this works best, as for example if it was in black and white it would not look as effective. I like the simplicity of this photo, as I decided on a central composition so that the subject of this photo stood out, and I think that the dark background also helped this. This is my second favourite photo from this shoot.

Fear Developmental Shoot (one)

14th November 2012- Work Record

What I actually achieved...

For my shoot on Wednesday I wanted to form the basis around the subject of fear, as I think that this is quite an interesting and broad subject that I could develop further into I am pleased with this shoot, as beforehand I wasn't sure if my idea would work effectively. However, I am happy with the concept of my ideas and I am excited to develop my idea further as my next shoot I am planning I am excited to try out and experiment with. I had an idea to collage these pictures together using PhotoShop do that it shows a range of different fears, and I also think it makes it more interesting as there is more to look at and the repetition works quite well together. I thought that black and white made this repetition look more effective as it doesn't distract from the idea of the photo if it was in colour this may in fact happen.

This photo is probably my favourite from this shoot, as I think that by using 12 different photos to create this one photo it has created a successful piece. I originally had the idea to use similar compositions for each photograph as I thought it would be more symmetrical, however I am glad that I did different compositions and angles throughout otherwise I think it would be too similar and this makes it more effective. Next time I would make sure that the exposure on all the photos were of a similar value, as some photos are lighter than others which is a little frustrating.

I also really like this photo, as I think it is very simplistic but still manages to capture the concept that I wanted to. I like the composition of this photo as it is to the left, rather than the centre as that would have been boring in my opinion. I also like this photo in black and white as it simplifies the photo and concentrates on the wording on the paper which is 'thunder'. I also think that the background works well with this photo as it is very basic and does not detract from the purpose of the photo.

Developmental shoot (1)

After researching more online into my theme I had originally thought of, I decided to concentrate on 'fear' as my subject choice. I have a few ideas to do with this topic which I am excited to try out, however tomorrow I will be completing for me, the least exciting shoot. Although I still think it will help me find more about creating an interesting photograph for my final piece. This will hopefully form the basis of my subject, as I think in a future and more adventurous shoot I will be concentrating on the fear of water, therefore this will help me to establish the meaning of the word 'fear' and what it means to different people which will give me a better idea on the emotion I want to capture of someone trying to escape their fear.

I have already started to prepare my work so that I am ready to shoot tomorrow, I have done this as I had an idea to take a photograph of common fears on a piece of paper then take a photo of someone holding it. I wanted the background of these photos to be very plain, for example a brick wall should hopefully work out well. I think that a basic composition will work best for this photo, as the meaning behind it is a lot more significant than the creative compositions therefore I will most likely do a central composition.
I have prepared twelve different pieces of paper each containing the words:

  • Flying
  • Dying
  • The dark
  • Needles
  • Clowns
  • Spiders
  • Failure
  • Small spaces
  • Water
  • Thunder
  • Lightning
  • Heights

Tomorrow I will be going out shooting pictures of one person by themselves holding each of these signs, and I will then merge these photos together on photo shop to create one large photo consisting of these photos. I think I will try to achieve this in black and white, as I think it will capture the meaning of the photo more than if it was in colour your eyes may be attracted to something different in the photo.
For this shoot I want to achieve a range of different photos that I can experiment with, and change them all around in order to create an effective photo. I also want to achieve the knowledge for the foundations of my 'fear' topic so that I understand this better, by also asking people about their fears which I will then record on here shortly what my conclusion is. Hopefully, this will give me a better idea of what I am trying to capture and the emotional journey that arises from such fears.

Developmental Shoot Ideas
Below I will be discussing a few ideas for my developmental shoot, which i will be brainstorming then deciding over the weekend which idea to follow through with after researching on the internet for more inspiration.
I had a few ideas that I wanted to use for my developmental shoot this week, which I want to focus on social issues. A few of my main ideas include alcoholism, and silent suicide. These are both quite significant issues in society, and I thought that they would be effective to capture in a photo.
A few ways I thought of capturing the suicide aspect of this idea would be drowning in a bath. I got this idea from searching for inspiration and I thought that the whole idea of the photo would be effectiveAs well as this, I think that the distorted image that the water would give on the subject would make it more unique and interesting and still be effective enough to show what I am trying to represent with the photo. Also I think that the following photo shows something that I will try to re-create, because the whole idea of trying to 'escape' with the hands on the surface of the water shows the resistance to society, and the need to escape from the cruel world.

Although this photo is in black and white, I think that it would work better in colour as it would show more emotion and be more dramatic. I have also found a close up shot that I like the concept of equally, as I think the effectiveness of the lips alone speak many words and the hair across the face showing distress.
I will be posting at the end of the weekend a separate post, saying what I hope to achieve from this shoot and how I will develop these ideas. However first I would like to collect more inspiration and think about what resources are available to me in order to complete this successfully.

Formal Elements; colour.

                                               Golden Path

Today, we shot colour and took many shots which we thought would display colour effectively. I made an image bank that would inspire me to think of new ideas. I took a range of different photos, so that I could choose later on which in my opinion was the most successful. This also allowed me to identify what was successful in this shoot, and to outline my strengths as well as my weaknesses. This is my favourite photo from the shoot on colour.
This is because of the composition of the photo, although it is very simplistic I think it is still effective. I have experimented on the computer with this photo, adding different effects to the photo and seeing what would work.
