Work Record

Plans for the shoot
For this shoot I plan to photograph a range of unhealthy foods in the studio in order to show the issue of a bad diet. I wont necessarily show the food in a 'bad way' but I plan to photograph close shots in bright light using the macro lens in the studio. I will experiment with different compositions  and I plan to try and make patterns and geometrical shapes in order to create repetition within my shots. I will lay out the foods (most likely doughnuts, lollies, and a mixture of other sweets) on a white background in order to make them stand out in the shots, I may also try to add in a plate but I am unsure if this will work.

What I hope to achieve
I hope to achieve a shoot that shows the issue of unhealthy foods in people's diets, and still life shots of these. I hope to also strengthen my studio work and working with the light 'boom' in order to create an appropriate amount of light within my photos so that it looks polished and well put together. I hope to achieve shots that require minimum Photoshop editing, as I feel that the photos should be successful in themselves and shouldn't need a lot of editing to achieve what I want from this shoot.

What I actually achieved
I am happy with the outcome of this shoot, as I feel that through experimenting with lines and patterns in my shoots using the foods the result looks quite effective. However, because of the bright colours it gives a happy atmosphere within my photos which I don't feel necessarily reflects the unhealthy foods and more the enjoyment that people experience when eating it. Although, this is a concept in itself I can still work on this to progress towards some shots that I am happy with

What I plan to do next
Although I liked the outcome of this shoot, I don't feel that it represents the 'bad side' of an unhealthy diet. In order to show this properly, I plan to photograph a model eating these foods in a 'piggish way' to show the greed within the person who is eating it and how they are feeling. I will begin in this shoot to show them enjoying the food, but if I am not happy during my shoot I will experiment with different emotions when eating these foods to see what is most successful.

This is one of my favourite shots from the shoot, as I feel that working repetition into this photo is what makes it effective. I also like the vibrant colours in this against the white background, and I feel that the composition mainly means that the lollies fill the frame of the photo. If I could change this photo in one way, next time I would ensure that my camera is a little straighter and that I got rid of the shadows from the lollies as they are a little frustrating to have in my photo.

I am slightly disappointed with this photo, as I feel that the bowl in the top of the photo ruins it as it is too bulky against the delicate foreground. Although I like the editing using selective colour on the lollies so that they stand out, I feel that there is too much harsh shadows underneath the bowl. I like the positioning of the sweets in the photo in the foreground and the concept of the lollies around the bowl, however it is ruined by the harshness of the bowl and where it is positioned in the photo.
